Stacy Davis became President of the Chicago Teachers Union in 2022 after previously serving the union as its Political and Legislative Director and more recently as its Vice President. She is credited with the coalition-building and legislative campaigns that saw to the creation of an elected school board in Chicago, the passage of substantial charter school accountability measures, securing hundreds of millions in funding for public schools, and most recently the historic election of former teacher and CTU organizer, Brandon Johnson, as the Mayor of Chicago. She is recognized as one of the most powerful leaders in Chicago by Chicago Magazine.

Davis Gates is the Executive Vice President of the Illinois Federation of Teachers, Vice President of the American Federation of Teachers, and Party Chair of United Working Families. She is a former high school social studies teacher and lives on the southside of Chicago with her husband and three children.
