Eunic Epstein-Ortiz is a nationally recognized communications advisor and activist dedicating her career to social justice fights for over 15 years. Her work has brought her to New York City, Washington, D.C., Florida, and every battleground state from Nevada to Pennsylvania.
Growing up in a household of educators in a “right-to-work” state, Eunic saw first hand her parents work to fight for union representation at their colleges. For nearly a decade of her career, Eunic worked with the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) and its locals as a high-level communications strategist fighting for some of our most marginalized communities.
Eunic led a communications campaign in support of the fight for the expansion of the Affordable Care Act in states across the each coast, expanding health care coverage for low-income adults. After the 2016 elections, she made the decision to move back to her home state of Florida to fight for workers’ rights in the sunshine state with SEIU. During the 2018 midterms, Eunic led the communications team on a campaign to help support the passage of Amendment 4 which restored the right to vote for returning citizens.
As the National Political Communications Director of SEIU, she oversaw electoral and political communications for the organization across sixteen key states — specifically talking to millions of infrequent voters in Black, Latino, and API communities. In 2020, she led a campaign that successfully passed Amendment 2 in Florida to increase the minimum wage to $15 an hour. In 2022, she ran for Florida State Senate.
Eunic has been at the center of the fight for LGBTQ+ civil rights for her entire career, working with activists from across New York City and the country to move pro-equality legislation. Eunic received several recognitions for her work including 25 Most Remarkable Women in New York City and 10 People Making a Difference from Politico New York.
Before joining SEIU, Eunic was a communications strategist at FleishmanHillard, one of the largest public relations firms in the world. Eunic provided strategic counsel for a broad range of clients; from international governments to Fortune 700 companies. Her experience spanned government relationship, crisis reputation management, media/influencer relations, social and digital communication as well as online optimization.
Eunic began her career in New York City working as a spokesperson and digital manager for then City Council Speaker Christine Quinn. Her work at City Hall was recognized by tech media as top campaigns making a difference in 2010.
During her career, she has taught undergraduate and graduate communication strategy courses at New York University and the University of Florida . She earned her B.A. from the University of Florida and her M.A. from New York University.
Originally from Florida’s West Coast, she currently resides in St. Petersburg, Florida with her wife, Eve.
