Join us for a breakfast conversation with Ligia M. Guallpa of the Worker’s Justice Project (WJP) to learn more about the victories and challenges emerging from the inspiring upsurge in organizing by app-based delivery workers in NYC, especially in the wake of the groundbreaking minimum wage increase won in 2023.

 

During the program we will hear from Ms. Guallpa about WJP’s vision for continuing to organize app-based delivery workers in NYC and beyond, new threats they are facing or expect to face from big tech, and innovative partnerships they are developing with other labor and social justice organizations. The program will include a moderated Q&A as well as an opportunity for audience questions. 

 

Ligia Guallpa is the Executive Director of the Workers’ Justice Project (WJP), one of the most effective worker centers, leading groundbreaking efforts to transform the future for 62,000 app-based delivery workers in NYC and setting a national example. She played a crucial role in building Los Deliveristas Unidos (LDU), one of the largest gig worker collectives in the country, which secured a landmark policy mandating food delivery apps in NYC to pay delivery workers a minimum of $19.56 per hour, excluding tips. Ligia is also spearheading key partnerships with U.S. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and NYC Mayor Eric Adams to launch Deliveristas Hubs, a first-of-its-kind initiative establishing public charging stations and rest hubs across the city to meet the needs of NYC’s most essential frontline workers.
